Rachel is from the Kpelle ethnic group. She was married to a man called Alfred Lamah who is a teacher by profession. She is the only child for her parents and and because of parental love for her as the only child, they didn’t send her to school with the fear that something might wrong with her if she goes away from them because there is no school in their village in those days. Now when she got married to Alfred Lamah who was grade 8 drop from school our of poverty as at that time, she suggested to her husband to continue his studies and she will be working to support him by farming which she did since she is not educated. When the husband finished high school, her progressed to teacher’s training college and when he finished, he was employed by the government as a teacher at the nearby village. As time goes on, the government promoted him to Principal and assigned him to another far district, the so called Lamah fell in love with another educated woman, married her and abandoned Rachel, the first woman with their five (5) children. When the family from both party sent for him and tried to intervene to know what was the cause, he refused to come and finally abandoned the woman and his children.
When Agriculture department of ASFED went to her village to work with association of women farmers, we met Rachel who narrated her story publicly to the organization. She said that she proved her love to her husband by sending him to school and supported him in all ways in order to help her and the children. Now he paid her back by abandoning her and the children, careless about their feeding, clothing and most important thing, their education. She continues and said that who will help her educate her children, also play a husband role in her life? She lamented that she always does casual labor to feed herself and her children. Also she said that since she came across ASFED, she has hope in God that life will be alright with her and her children one day. I wholly and solely depend on God through ASFED to come to my aid says Rachel.
Now ASFED is appealing to any Humanitarian body, organization and philanthropists to come to the aid of this woman and her children.
